Kit Hain

"We met at the Handle office one day where she had met Pip and David to discuss a deal. Two writers in the same building - David couldn't resist and put us together to try and write a few tunes! He was brilliant at that. So we make a date and I rock up to her St. Johns Wood garden flat (she'd had a smash hit with Dancing in the City) with my guitar and a few ideas. We got into a great routine over the next 3 or 4 months: starting early with a game of squash! Into her studio and work, break for an extremely healthy Hain lunch and then more work. She was like a sister to me - a great talent and a good friend. The only time our routine went wrong was when I'd had a night getting smashed with Dave Most in my flat near Regents Park! I was supposed to meet Kit at 9am for Squash and writing. Dave and I were still hammering it at 8.00! Panic, shower, cab - I staggered up to Kits front door and apologised with a foolish grin. The darling girl just grabbed me and pushed me into her spare bedroom where I immediately crashed! She woke me 5
hours later, made me a "Hain lunch" and packed me off in a cab. Our next session 2 days later was more productive - we wrote Bells Of Old Paris! Love that girl, one of my best songwriting partners and a great pal!"
